So Many Books… So Little Time!

“Thank you, Evangelia. For the greatest honor anyone has ever bestowed upon me. Thank you for trusting me.”

Deluge

Welcome back for fifth and final day of my favorite series!

Deluge : Severe Flooding

The title of this book holds many meanings, at least in my own interpretation (forgive me, Lisa T. Bergren, if I assume wrong 😉). For one, the beginning of the book takes place in the beauty and splendor of Venice, a city quite known for its flooded streets. It is in Venice that Lia truly becomes her own woman. No longer the sweet, shadow of a sister, but a confident, wise woman able to conquer her own battles. During this first section, you will enjoy the marvelous beauty of the city, but also the coming danger of one of the most powerful men in medieval Italy, the doge.

Second, as the Black Plague ravages and floods the medieval world, the Forellis and Betarrinis may not be able to save everyone they love. The fifth installment will hit right at home for those of us who have been sequestered and quarantined to our homes, just as Castello Forelli.

Deluge is a perfect ending to the series, even though I wish there was more, for my own selfish desire. I absolutely love this series and the characters that have become my companions. Their love and devotion will pull at your heartstrings and will hold you captive until you return for another re-read. I truly wish I were as courageous and compassionate as Gabriella, and as skilled and endearing as Evangelia. They are great role models for any woman. Although I truly believe we live in the greatest time, there are definitely moments that I wished I could as well be battling my way through danger or enjoying the simple pleasure of listening to someone sing in the great hall.

Although not the most prominent element in the series, God is a beautiful undercurrent to every scene and character. In the first few books, the Betarrini family does not posses much belief in God, rather more of a disregard. Not seen, nor felt. But through Marcello and the many dangers they have experienced, they begin to see the beauty and the wonder of our merciful and loving God. I enjoyed reading the progression of their relationship with the Father through every book.

When we are faced with danger or even uncertainty, may God always guide and provide peace. For you are never alone and never forsaken.

Thank you Lisa T. Bergren for listening to God’s voice and writing such a wonderful series. It has impacted my life more than you know, and I’m sure countless other young women. Blessings!
